Healthy Travel Guide to Noosa

Noosa is an exquisite slice of coastal bliss and one of my favourite weekend getaways. And beyond the region’s natural wonders, Noosa has a flourishing health scene of cafes and food stores, outdoor activities and wellness retreats. Far from ‘letting yourself go’, Noosa is the perfect place to re-energise and embrace healthy travel. So here’s your Healthy Travel Guide to Noosa and everything you need to know to have a fabulously healthy holiday.

Healthy Eats – Food Options in Noosa

.

Noosa has a huge selection of high-end seafood restaurants that serve up incredibly fresh seafood fare. But if you’re looking for healthy, cafe-style meals, check out my faves:

.

Belmondos Organic Market and Vanilla Food Cafe

59 Rene St, Noosaville
Certified organic grocery store and artisan cafe.

Unknown by tourists but a favourite with the locals, Belmondos Organic Market is well worth the 10 minute drive from Hastings Street. And once you’ve stocked up on fresh local produce, reward yourself with a meal from their onsite eatery, Vanilla Food Cafe.

We visited for lunch and feasted on raw vegan smoothies, superfood frittatas and acai bowls. All healthy, all delicious![/vc_column_text]

Gympie Terrace along the Noosa River is quickly becoming Noosa’s newest cafe hotspot. Our favourite is definitely Depot Cafe. This bright and colourful little space offers fresh and healthy meals for breakfast and lunch each day.

Try the pitaya bowls for breakfast, smashed avo for lunch and fresh juices every. single. time. You and your tastebuds will not leave disappointed. Promise.

Health bar offering vegan, gluten and dairy free bowls and smoothies.

Blended is located on Hastings Street and the perfect place to stop for post-swim smoothies or acai bowls. We headed here in the afternoon and sampled their gluten and dairy-free, vegan acai bowls. Acai and cacao was our fave flavour combo.

Coconut Head

Plant-based superfood bar offering raw vegan and gluten free options.

Coconut Head is a plant based, superfood bar also located on Hastings St and the ultimate stop for refined-sugar-free raw cakes (that are freaking amazing!). Their clean menu features “coconut heads” (their raw cakes), smoothies, bowls, chia seed cups, salads and snacks. We headed here specifically to try their coconut whip and raw cakes. I can report back with confidence – they are incredibly tasty. The Choc Banana Sundae we devoured was 90% coconut water and coconut probiotics so it was basically a health food, right!?

Get Active & Explore

.

Noosa National Park Coastal Track

.

If walking is your thing, then Noosa National Park’s Coastal Track is for you. Perfect for a morning jog or a stroll with the family, the track is a great way to stay active while exploring some of Noosa’s beautiful National Park. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a pod of dolphins swimming off the coast or even whales during their breeding season.

Kayak in the Noosa Everglades

.

Often described as the region’s ‘best kept secret’, exploring the Noosa Everglades by kayak or canoe offers the perfect combination of active escape and forest bathing. Getting across Lake Cootharaba requires a sizeable amount of muscle (or technique) but there’s plenty of time to float along, enjoying the sounds of nature and admiring the mirror-like reflections once you hit the Narrows.

Learn to Surf

.

Where better to catch a break than Noosa National Surfing Reserve. Famous for it’s slow peeling waves, Noosa is a great place to hang ten or learn the ropes as a newbie. Jesse loves to surf at First Point and learning to surf is on my bucket list now that we’re living across from the beach.

Hike in the Hinterland

.

While the Noosa Trail Network offers eight scenic hinterland trails, when on holidays we generally prefer our hikes to be a little less strenuous and with a view that overly rewards our lack of effort. With that in mind, the short hike (can you call it a hike if the path is paved?) to the top of Mount Tinbeerwah is a perfect example. Less than an hour round trip, and stunning panoramic views of the Noosa hinterland around to the ocean, it’s well worth the short drive from Noosa Heads to catch a scenic sunset.

Embrace Wellness

.

Forest Bathing

.

Wellness isn’t just for the wealthy. The Japanese have known this forever and their practice of ‘forest bathing’ is starting to catch on for the rest of the world. The practice of simply being in the presence of trees has been studied and proven to reduce stress hormone production, boost our immune system, lower heart rate and blood pressure and improve our overall feelings of wellbeing. So head out amongst it, to where the wild things are in Noosa National Park and soak up all the forest you can.

Yoga on the beach

.

If you’re not the kind of person who likes to namastay in bed all morning on holiday, then morning yoga on the beach might just be your idea of travel bliss. You can DIY anywhere along Main Beach or book in a class with one of the many yogis practicing in Noosa. A post practice dip in Noosa’s crystal clear waters will cool you down and provides that healthy dose of essential sea minerals.

Getaway Pantry Picnic

.

Romantic sunset picnics are good for the soul. And with Getaway Pantry doing all the hard work for you, just rock up to a secluded spot along the Noosa River and give your relationship the pampering it deserves. With a cute teepee and plenty of healthy platters to choose from, you can indulge with no strings attached.

Pamper Yourself at a Day Spa

.

If you’re looking to indulge in a little luxury spa adventure then you have more than enough options to choose from. From massages and facials to day spa packages and full-day retreats, there’s almost unlimited pampering possibilities in Noosa.

Explore Eumundi Markets

.

Eumundi Markets are a little bit special in the world of markets. Beyond the standard arts and crafts, you’ll find a whole range of fresh produce, healthy food stalls, local natural skincare products and even alternative healers and practitioners. After more than 30 years, it just gets bigger and better every year and is worth the 20 minute drive inland from Noosa Heads.

Where to Stay in Noosa for Healthy Travelers

.

Seahaven Noosa Resort

www.seahavennoosa.com.au
15 Hastings St, Noosa Heads
Luxury beachfront apartments

Why you’ll love it: What could be better than a luxury apartment that overlooks Main Beach? If you answered ‘nothing’, you are correct. It is literally right on the beach, with the gate from the pool area (two pool areas actually) leading right onto beautiful golden sand.

Why it’s a healthy choice: We love staying in apartments that allow us to make and prepare healthy meals at least some of the time – eating out three times a day doesn’t normally work well for us. At Seahaven, all rooms offer kitchen facilities and plenty of bench space. This meant we could bring our travel bender to make smoothies for breakfast, and I even cooked up some yummy local fish and salad for dinner one night to enjoy on our balcony. Having a fridge also helps. The Queensland summer is balmy so we also kept supplies in the fridge to make up cooling acai bowls and snacks throughout the day.

Glorious Noosa! You visited the the hinterland and the head of the river but missed the fabulous riverways en route to the beach.

Next time, while away your day on a rented boat, kayak or SUP and explore the islands, secret creeks and real estate. You can do this while dragging a fishing line.
Pull up on a sandbank and dangle your feet in the clean water, and sizzle your own fabulous BBQ selection.

End your day, sitting by the river sipping a glass of wine or a local beer and watch the sun go down, as flying foxes cross the river in search of food and parrots and starlings settle into the trees that line the foreshore. Magic.
